In this section, you can practise the two basic stitches, knit stitch and purl stitch, that are introduced in Knitting Basics, before attempting a project.  I recommend that you make a small square of knitted fabric, known as a practice swatch, in the stitch that you are practising.

Making a practice swatch provides a perfect way for you to practise all the skills and techniques in the Skill Builder tutorial sections before attempting a project. The techniques can then be applied to the projects in the Project Ideas section.

In this section I also introduce some of the standard abbreviations and the format for pattern instructions that you will find in knitting patterns as a firm foundation to prepare you for progression.
