Adjust Tension
There are two ways to adjust tension:
1. adjust the way you knit - i.e. how tightly you pull the yarn between
stitches.
2. use different size knitting needles than the size given in the tension
guide
As a beginner you can work on adjusting the way you knit. It takes practice and attention and your tension will change over it time. The beginner projects in Knit Knack have been specifically designed to allow beginners to work to your own tension to get good results, therefore there is no tension guide in the instructions.
This will allow you to practise and improve your knitting skills before moving on to more advanced projects without worrying too much about tension. However, I strongly recommend that you get into the habit of making tension swatches for all your projects at the start as a firm foundation for successful knitting in future, see Make a Tension Swatch.
Ways to adjust tension:
Tension too tight i.e. more stitches and/or rows than the tension guide
Use bigger needles
Don't pull the yarn as tightly between stitches.
Tension too loose i.e. less stitches and/or rows than the tension guide
Use smaller needles
Pull the yarn more tightly between stitches
.
