Can you please help me. If on the band of wool it states use needle size 6.5 can I use any of the fashion wools that also state this size needle on the band or do I have to use the wool recommended on the pattern. I have some lovely old chunky patterns and it states using wool that is now non existent. However some of the new wool does not state if it is chunky just the recommended needle size. Thank you so much for your help. Glad I have found this web site. It is useful to know that if you need help, you are there. Regards Beryl Gray [ view what Dorret says ]

Hi Dorret I have just discovered your site and its fantastic for an 'in betweeny' such as me who can do the basics but gets a bit stuck after that! I have a question about your pattern for a baby blanket. The pattern is for DK - is there a simple way to calculate how to make a similar sized blanket in 4ply baby yarn? And how much yarn and what sized needles I would need? Thanks very much Sarah [ view what Dorret says ]

I am currently knitting a cardigan and am on the left front have completed the main pattern moss stitch but it says to shape raglan cast off 5 stitches which gives it a bit of a slope then it says to work 4 rows dec 1 stitch on next and followin 0 rows 1) does this mean i dec in 1 st row at the slope end - is this the raglan end. and work 3 rows straight. or just dec on the first row and not work 3 more rows. what is raglan in knitting language is it just the neck parts on the fronts of cardgians where the button bands go. thanks.
